Lawrence Township Trustee Steve Talley Expands Emergency Rental Assistance to help families facing eviction
LAWRENCE TOWNSHIP – Today Lawrence Township Trustee Steve Talley called for a special meeting of the Lawrence Township Board of Advisors while submitting his plan to expand rental assistance benefits to cover multiple months.
Trustee Talley has met with residents throughout the Township listening to what their family’s needs are as the eviction moratorium comes to an end. A consistent theme developed – fear of eviction and loss of their home.
Trustee Talley has contacted the township attorney to draft a resolution to immediately get the relief out into the community.
In submitting this request, Trustee Talley stated, “The township’s number one priority is providing assistance to residents who have experienced loss due to the continued effects of the COVID pandemic. That could be from loss of a job, loss of childcare, to loss of a loved one. These events are not only highly traumatic to their emotional health but also potentially have a tremendous negative impact to their ability to take care of basic household needs. I absolutely do not want to see a family lose their home while grieving the loss of a loved one.”
Trustee Talley hopes for this new rental assistance program to go into effect as early as next week.
